About the role
Rugby World Cup Australia is excited to offer an opportunity for a Communications & PR Coordinator based in our Sydney office and reporting directly to the Senior Communications Manager. In this role, you’ll be right at the heart of the action helping bring the tournament’s story to life, supporting media coverage, and making sure key moments are seen, heard and celebrated both in Australia and around the world.
Day to day, you’ll coordinate media requests, organise interviews, and support press conferences, announcements and key tournament moments. You’ll create and share content, track coverage, and ensure media and stakeholders have what they need to tell the story. Working closely with the Senior Communications Manager and Communications & PR Manager, you’ll help keep communications activity running smoothly. You’ll collaborate across teams and partners, contribute to storytelling, and deliver clear, consistent messaging across all channels. This is a fast-paced, collaborative role where no two days are the same, ideal for someone organised, proactive and excited to be part of major moments as they happen.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the delivery of the communications and media strategy by work closely with senior leaders to drive activity that builds the profile and reputation of RWC 2027.
- Manage day-to-day media operations and coordinate media requests, journalist enquiries and interview opportunities, ensuring a professional and seamless experience.
- Develop and distribute communications content and assist in creating engaging materials including media releases, talking points, briefing notes and press assets.
- Plan and deliver media events and announcements. Support the coordination of press conferences, milestone moments and tournament activations, including logistics and on-the-day delivery.
- Maintain media systems and reporting by managing media lists, trackers and distribution tools, while monitoring coverage and contributing to reporting and insights.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, support storytelling and work with internal teams, agencies and key partners to ensure aligned messaging and help identify and develop compelling stories.
- Coordinate communications assets and processes by overseeing media materials (e.g. photography, video, media kits), while maintaining strong administrative systems, including calendars, project trackers and documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2–4 years’ experience in communications, PR, media, journalism or events
- Strong writing and communication skills with great attention to detail
- Excellent organisation and time management, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
- Confidence building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Good understanding of media, digital and social channels
- A hands-on, team-first mindset with strong coordination skills
- The ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt when things change
- Proficiency across Microsoft Office and communications tools
- Experience supporting events or campaigns in fast-paced environments - preferred
