Clinical Nurse – Diphtheria Contact Tracing and Response Officer

NT Health’s Centre for Disease Control is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Registered Nurses for a short-term opportunity supporting the public health response to diphtheria in the Northern Territory.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a critical outbreak response, working in both community and field-based settings to protect and support vulnerable populations.
About the Role
The Contact Tracing and Response Officer (Clinical Nurse) will play a key role in delivering frontline outbreak response activities. This includes conducting contact tracing, providing clinical care, and supporting prevention efforts in homes and community environments.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake field-based contact tracing and response activities
Perform clinical procedures including throat and wound swabbing, administration of antibiotics, and diphtheria vaccination
Assess and manage contacts based on public health risk and exposure history
Provide clear, culturally appropriate health education to individuals, families, and communities
Work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving outbreak environment
Demonstrate flexibility in response to changing operational priorities, locations, and demands
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all clinical and contact interactions
Essential Requirements
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (or eligibility)
Accredited immunisation qualification and relevant experience
Demonstrated understanding of the social, cultural, and environmental factors influencing healthcare delivery
Willingness and ability to travel as required
