We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to support a major banking data modernisation program, migrating on-premises data workloads to Snowflake on AWS.
You will define and govern the target-state data architecture, guide migration and modelling decisions, and ensure the platform is secure, scalable, resilient, cost-effective and operationally supportable.
-
Assess the existing data landscape, including source systems, data flows, interfaces, dependencies and workloads.
-
Define the target architecture across data ingestion, storage, transformation, modelling and consumption.
-
Design raw/landing, curated and business-consumption data layers.
-
Establish patterns for batch, incremental and near-real-time ingestion into AWS and Snowflake.
-
Guide the migration of data pipelines, transformations and workloads from on-premises platforms.
-
Define standards for enterprise data products, analytical models and semantic layers.
-
Establish data quality, reconciliation, lineage, metadata and governance requirements.
-
Define security controls covering RBAC, encryption, masking, privacy and auditability.
-
Set requirements for performance, scalability, availability, recoverability, observability and cost optimisation.
-
Establish Snowflake performance and FinOps principles, including warehouse sizing, workload isolation and query optimisation.
-
Define operational-readiness requirements, including monitoring, alerting, runbooks and managed-service handover.
-
Provide technical leadership, design assurance and architecture governance throughout delivery.
-
Strong hands-on Snowflake architecture experience, including warehouses, databases, schemas, tables, views, stages, Snowpipe, Streams and Tasks.
-
Strong AWS data architecture knowledge across ingestion, storage, data lake and integration services.
-
Deep understanding of data warehousing, lake/lakehouse architecture, ETL/ELT and data integration.
-
Experience designing migrations from on-premises platforms to cloud-based data platforms.
-
Strong dimensional and relational modelling skills, including data products and semantic layers.
-
Experience with data quality, reconciliation, metadata, lineage, cataloguing and governance.
-
Knowledge of IAM/RBAC, encryption, masking, privacy controls and secure data architecture.
-
Experience with CI/CD, DataOps and automated deployment patterns.
-
Strong Snowflake performance engineering and cloud cost-optimisation expertise.
-
The ability to produce target-state architectures, migration designs, data-flow diagrams, architecture standards, decision records and reusable patterns.
-
Experience defining operational-readiness, monitoring and production-support models.
-
Strong stakeholder engagement skills across business, data, security, risk, engineering and operations teams.
-
Banking, financial services or highly regulated enterprise experience is strongly preferred.
-
Snowflake and AWS architecture or data engineering certifications are highly regarded.
-
Experience with TOGAF, Power BI, enterprise semantic models, data catalogue platforms or integration tooling would be advantageous.
This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the future data architecture of a major banking environment, work with modern Snowflake and AWS technologies, and guide a complex transformation from design through to production.
If you are an experienced Data Architect with strong Snowflake, AWS and data-modernisation expertise, we would welcome your application.
