Alya is seeking experienced and compassionate Female Disability Support Workers to join the support team of a woman living with Parkinson’s disease.
We are looking for confident workers who can provide a combination of physical, personal and psychosocial support, while encouraging the participant to maintain her independence, confidence and involvement in everyday life.
The participant requires support with mobility, medication management, personal care, daily living and behaviours of concern, so previous experience supporting people with complex or changing needs will be highly regarded.
About the Role
Your role will focus on providing consistent, respectful and practical support while helping the participant maintain as much choice, independence and control over her daily life as possible.
Depending on the day, your support may include:
- Providing mobility assistance and physical support
- Supporting personal care and daily living activities
- Medication assistance and management in line with the participant’s support plan
- Supporting household tasks, meal preparation and everyday routines
- Community access, appointments, shopping and social activities
- Providing emotional and psychosocial support
- Recognising changes in presentation, behaviour or wellbeing
- Supporting behaviours of concern using positive and proactive strategies
- Providing reassurance and support during periods of distress or dysregulation
- Encouraging independence and participation in everyday tasks
- Maintaining clear and consistent professional boundaries
- Following individual support, behaviour and risk management plans
- Completing clear and accurate shift documentation
- Communicating effectively with the participant and her wider support team
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for experienced, patient and emotionally grounded Support Workers who are comfortable providing hands-on physical assistance while also understanding the complexities of psychosocial support.
An ideal candidate for this role:
- Has experience supporting people with Parkinson’s disease, neurological conditions or physical disability
- Has experience in mental health or psychosocial disability support
- Is confident providing personal care and mobility assistance
- Hs experience with medication assistance or management
- Is confident responding to behaviours of concern
- Understands positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies
- Can remain calm, respectful and consistent when situations become challenging
- Is observant and able to recognise changes in physical or emotional presentation
- Can encourage independence without taking over
- Is proactive and confident working independently
- Has a warm, respectful and person-centred approach
- Is reliable and committed to providing consistent support
Essential Requirements
- Previous disability, psychosocial or community support experience
- Confidence with personal care and mobility support
- NDIS Worker Screening clearance
- QLD Blue Card
- Current Australian driver’s licence
- Reliable vehicle and comprehensive car insurance
Relevant qualifications in Disability, Individual Support, Mental Health, Community Services or a related field are highly regarded.
