In this role, you'll:
The Senior Safety & Network Officer is responsible for improving road safety and network performance across the region. The role involves conducting traffic and safety investigations, audits, and technical assessments to identify solutions to road safety and traffic management issues. It provides technical advice to Transport teams and local councils and supports the planning, development, and delivery of integrated network and safety programs.
Key responsibilities include leading road safety reviews, fatal crash investigations, and speed zone assessments; supporting minor network projects and providing expert input into road re‑categorisation assessments. The role responds to safety and traffic engineering enquiries, ensures timely and customer‑focused communication, and contributes to regional active and public transport initiatives. It also requires applying project management techniques to meet program targets and collaborating with Program Offices, precincts, and business units to ensure a consistent, evidence‑based approach to managing traffic, speed, guidance, and delineation programs.

About you
You are an experienced road safety or traffic professional with a strong capability in analysing, assessing and improving road network performance. You bring hands‑on experience in road safety engineering, traffic management or network operations, including conducting investigations, audits and technical assessments. You have a solid technical understanding of traffic and road safety principles, standards and guidelines, and you’re confident applying these to real‑world situations.
Your analytical and problem‑solving strengths enable you to interpret data and evidence to develop practical, effective network solutions. You’re a clear communicator who can engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal teams, councils and community groups. With experience applying project management principles, you’re organised, proactive and able to deliver work within agreed timeframes and budgets. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to safer, more reliable and more accessible transport outcomes for the community.
This is a permanent role is located within commuting distance of a Transport Hub in the West Region (Orange, Parkes or Dubbo). The salary for this position is a Transport Grade 7 ($124,810 -$139,787) per annum plus superannuation.
