About the role
In the Vacation Student – Open Pit Mine Geology role, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting production and grade control activities within an active mining environment. Working alongside experienced geologists, you'll contribute to projects that help maximise resource recovery and support safe, efficient mining operations.
Some of your work may include:
- Assist with grade control drilling and sampling programs
- Support geological mapping and ore mark-up activities
- Collect, validate and interpret geological data
- Contribute to orebody interpretation and geological modelling
- Assist with reconciliation and production reporting activities
- Support geological database management and data quality processes
- Work closely with mining and processing teams to support operational decision-making.
Program location
Cowal Gold Operations, NSW
Located near West Wyalong in Central New South Wales, Cowal is one of Australia's largest open pit gold mines, offering students exposure to a large-scale mining operation within a supportive regional community.
Roster: 5:2/4:3
Included: Subsidised accommodation, flights at the commencement and conclusion of the program, plus return travel home during the festive period.
About you
We're looking for motivated students who are curious, hands-on and keen to grow their technical skills.
You'll be:
- Studying Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline
- Demonstrating an interest in mining geology and open pit operations
- A strong problem-solver with analytical thinking skills
- A confident communicator and team player
- Willing to live and work in a regional mining environment
- Hold a valid manual driver's licence
