We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Allied Health Assistant (AHA) to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys supporting clients in their homes while working collaboratively with an experienced allied health team.
You will provide in-home support to clients receiving services through the Support at Home Program and NDIS. Working under the direction and supervision of our physiotherapists, you will play a vital role in assisting clients to implement their home exercise programs, maintain mobility, and achieve their independence goals.
You will be based at our Mount Waverley office and will travel to clients throughout metropolitan Melbourne and the Bass Coast region.
This is a full-time position.
Salary
$58,000 – $72,000 per annum + superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Therapeutic Support
- Assist in the delivery of individual home exercise programs as directed by the physiotherapists
- Supervise and guide clients through their prescribed exercise routines, providing technique and safety guidance in accordance with the prescribed program.
- Support clients with prescribed mobility and gait activities.
- Provide encouragement and motivation to clients to promote engagement and adherence to their care plan.
- Deliver general therapy interventions in accordance with documented treatment plans and as directed by the physiotherapists, seeking guidance from and escalating changes or concerns to the supervising Physiotherapist.
Clinical Monitoring & Communication
- Monitor client progress and capacity against prescribed treatment plans, as well as their general well-being during home visits, and promptly report and escalate any changes or concerns to the supervising physiotherapist.
- Identify client circumstances that require additional input from Allied Health Professionals and communicate these effectively during clinical handover.
- Follow documented contraindications, precautions, and hazards related to specific client management, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Maintain regular, timely, and accurate progress notes and statistical data in our client management system.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Physiotherapists, Care Partners, Registered Nurses, and support workers.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and service reviews as required.
- Provide assistance across allied health disciplines where appropriately trained, competent and delegated by the relevant allied health professional.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistance (or equivalent)
- Ability to work with a variety of client groups, including older people and people with a disability.
- The ability to work autonomously in the community and effectively manage a caseload of client visits while recognising when to escalate to your supervisor.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to clients, families, and carers in a sensitive and professional manner.
- A client-centred approach with a strong commitment to promoting independence and quality of life.
- Demonstrated ability to take direction from supervising Allied Health Professionals.
- High level of computer skills, especially Microsoft Office Suite and client data management systems.
- The capacity to make sound decisions, problem-solve, and escalate when required.
Highly Desirable
- Experience working as an Allied Health Assistant, ideally in a community, aged care, or disability setting.
- Experience working with clients with Chronic Disease.
- Experience in delivering group programs.
- Understanding of the Support at Home Program and NDIS.
Other Requirements
The successful applicant must have:
- Current Victorian Driver Licence.
- Reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance.
- Current Police Check or NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Current CPR Certificate.
