Job Description
SCT are on the search for a Rail Shunter to join our rail operations team! The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of rolling stock, ensuring compliance with rail safety standards, operational procedures and workplace health and safety requirements.
Reporting to the Terminal Coordinator the position includes the following responsibilities:
- Ensuring safe & efficient shunting activities (yard shunting) of rollingstock
- Ensuring train and rollingstock examination activities on the site are conducted in a safe and efficient manner
- Using two-way radios, hand signals and verbal communication during rail movements.
- Responding to and reporting emergency situations in accordance with company procedures.
- Identifying, reporting and where appropriate, rectifying unsafe conditions.
- Monitoring rollingstock, track and weather conditions to ensure safe operations.
- Completing workplace records and reporting equipment or operational issues.
- Complying with Rail Safety, OHS requirements and safe work procedures.
- Wearing and maintaining required PPE.
- Attending toolbox meetings and participating in safety initiatives.
- Working effectively within a team and independently when required.
- Performing assigned duties in accordance with SCT rail policies and work instructions.
Please note that this position is a yard only role with no mainline requirements.
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Ability to pass a CAT 1 Rail Medical
- Ability to work on a 7 day rotating roster, nights & weekends
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- Experience in similar role
- Health and safety first mindset
