The Opportunity
As our full-time permanent
Hyperlocal News and Internal Communications Lead , based in our Brisbane CBD head office with a hybrid working pattern, you’ll play a unique role in how Shine connects with both our people and the communities we serve.
Sitting within the Office of the CEO, this unique role brings together two important areas of communication. You’ll support Shine’s hyperlocal news strategy by creating and sharing locally relevant news-style content that builds presence, trust and connection. You’ll also lead Shine’s internal communications program, helping ensure our people are informed, aligned and engaged through clear, meaningful and timely communication.
You’ll be a natural storyteller with strong judgement, driven by curiosity and able to work at pace. You’ll know how to identify a local angle, craft content that resonates with a specific audience, and translate information into communications that are clear, engaging and easy to understand. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, marketing colleagues and stakeholders across the business to bring important stories, updates and messages to life.
This is a truly unique opportunity for someone with a journalism, newsroom, or writing background, who wants to make a meaningful impact in a purpose-led national organisation.
Here’s how you’ll help us right wrong:
- Support Shine’s hyperlocal strategy by coordinating and delivering tailored community-level communications through short, locally relevant news-style content.
- Produce bespoke, location-specific updates and explainers that are highly relevant to local communities and may not typically be covered by state or national media.
- Source and manage local engagement channels, including independent news networks, social media pages, councils and community associations.
- Work with stakeholders to integrate local storytelling into broader national marketing programs.
- Monitor community engagement, readership and sentiment, using insights to improve content, channels and approach.
- Ensure community-facing initiatives uphold Shine’s brand, public image and governance standards.
- Lead Shine’s internal communications program, ensuring messages are clear, engaging and aligned to business priorities.
- Plan and deliver internal communications, content and materials that support business initiatives, change, projects and events, through intranet articles, leadership communications, FAQs, organisational updates and other internal messaging.
- Share client, people and business stories that strengthen engagement, connection and understanding across Shine.
- Advise stakeholders on audience, channel, messaging, timing and approach.
- Manage internal communication channels and tools, including our intranet, SharePoint and a variety of other tools.
What you’ll bring.
To thrive in this role, you’ll have:
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations, writing, communications or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in regional news, a radio newsroom or specialty publications.
- Ability to work at pace, and possibly under pressure, to deliver micro news to a range of hyperlocal channels.
- Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging and locally relevant content.
- Ability to identify, source and shape news items with a strong hyperlocal angle.
- Experience producing engaging and informative content, with strong storytelling capability.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling communications for different audiences.
- Strong understanding of community engagement and experience with all social media channels.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working in a professional services or legal environment is highly desirable.
