The opportunity
Working closely with our Operations Manager and the Questas Group AI/Data team, you’ll identify where AI can make a real difference across our business, then build, deploy and embed the tools that deliver it.
We’re not looking for someone who talks about AI in theory. We need someone who has already built things automations, workflows, agents, or tools and who comes from an engineering or operational background that means they understand how a real industrial business actually runs.
Why Aussie Fluid Power?
At Aussie Fluid Power, we recognise that our people are key to our success. In return for your skills and commitment, we offer:
- Attractive remuneration – because we believe your skills deserve it
- Career development opportunities – we promote from within wherever possible
- Employee benefits program, including salary packaging options, novated leasing and Fitness Passport
- 8 weeks paid parental leave (plus one week secondary carer leave)
- An inclusive culture with access to our Women’s Lead Network (if applicable)
- A strong focus on health and safety through our “Home Safely Every Day” program
- Internal mentoring and development support
What You’ll do
- Identify and scope AI opportunities across AFP talking to people across operations, sales, finance and service to find where the highest-impact projects sit
- Design, build and deploy AI tools, automations and workflows that deliver real, measurable outcomes (think time saved, errors reduced, revenue improved)
- Embed tools into the team’s daily workflow and provide the training and support to make adoption stick
- Collaborate with the Questas Group AI/Data team to ensure your work integrates with group systems and governance standards
- Stay across the rapidly evolving AI landscape and bring the best new ideas back to AFP
- Maintain a prioritised pipeline of projects, balancing quick wins against longer-term strategic initiatives
About You
The person we’re imagining for this role has an engineering degree and a few years working in a hands-on technical environment in roles like project engineering, technical sales, operations analysis or business improvement. They’ve seen the inefficiencies up close. And somewhere along the way, they got hooked on what AI and automation can do about them.
You don’t need to have had the words “AI Specialist” in your job title before. What you do need:
- An engineering background (mechanical, process, industrial or related)
- Experience in a technical, operations or business improvement role
- Demonstrated experience building AI tools, automations or prompt-based workflows (LLMs, generative AI or similar
- The commercial sense to know which projects are worth prioritising and why
- Strong communication skills — you’ll need to earn trust with people who are sceptical of change
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own pipeline of work
- Awareness of data architecture basics; Python, SQL or similar tools are a plus
