Primary objective
The Big Rivers Region Sport Education Coordinator plans, develops and implements programs and processes that support
schools and teachers in the Big Rivers Region to implement a Physical Literacy approach to Sport Education. The position
also supports the implementation of the Sport Pathways Program.
Context statement
The School of Sport Education NT contributes to all young Territorians success at school and resilience in life by supporting
school programs with specialist guidance and peer coaching for Physical Literacy; offering engagement opportunities for
students; and support for educators and teachers from a diverse range of contexts. The School of Sport Education NT,
through the School Sport NT Incorporated Association also provides representative opportunities for students at inter region
and interstate events and represents the Territory in national and cross-jurisdictional Sport Education and Physical Literacy
forums.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Promote Physical Literacy, Sport Education and Sport Pathways across the Big Rivers region.
2. Facilitate in school programs and prepare and deliver professional learning in Physical Literacy and Sport Education.
3. Coordinating School of Sport Education inter-school Sport Education activities and supporting other inter-school sport
activities.
4. Work collaboratively with the Regional Sport Pathways Coordinator to support the Sport Pathways Program.
5. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and networks with sport organisations, clubs, local government,
other departments and other relevant stakeholders across the Region.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A physical education degree or equivalent, demonstrated experience and the ability to obtain, registration with the
Northern Territory Teacher Registration Board and a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card).
2. Understanding of current Sport Education and Physical Literacy programs, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of
relevant educational theory and practice including the Australian Curriculum.
3. Effective communication and relationship building skills including an ability to interact effectively with people from
diverse cultures and maintain collaborative relationships with sporting bodies, schools, and other community
stakeholders.
4. Ability to deliver Professional Learning.
5. Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of an integrated team.
Desirable
1. Additional qualifications such as First Aid, Bronze Medallion, coaching qualifications etc.
