Central Coast Emergency Medicine:
Gosford and Wyong Hospitals contain busy mixed Emergency Departments with a wide variety of presentations, providing excellent exposure to trauma, Paediatrics (~25% of presentations), Medicine, and Surgery. Both are well supported by passionate Emergency Physicians and Trainees who are committed to your development and wellbeing.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.
Emergency Medicine Training:
Emergency SRMOs have access to a weekly Consultant-led education program which focuses on procedures, hands-on skills, and Simulation. CCLHD holds several formal courses throughout the year, including BEST (Basic Emergency Skills and Techniques), BASIC (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care), MIMMS (Major Incident Medical Management and Support), DAW (Difficult Airway Workshop), and The Chest Tube Workshop. There is support and career opportunities available for those looking to progress into Emergency Medicine training.
Emergency SRMOs are rostered 8 x 10 hour shifts a fortnight with minimal un-rostered overtime, any of which is paid. Roster matching for couples will be considered. Rotations support the prerequisite to join ACEM with 6 months in Gosford Emergency Department and 6 months in Wyong Emergency Department.
The NSW Central Coast is located only 1 hour north of Sydney CBD. Career opportunities are available for JMOs wishing to progress a career in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care Medicine from SRMO to Consultant level.
