About the role
The Technical Specialist – Fire plays a critical role in protecting people, property and learning environments across TAFE NSW’s extensive statewide portfolio. This specialist position ensures that campuses operate safely and compliantly by providing expert fire‑safety advice that supports students, staff and communities every day.
Reporting to the Manager Maintenance within the Corporate Services Group, you will lead fire‑safety compliance activities across NSW—coordinating annual fire safety statements, developing audit programs, and advising on legislation, standards and risk. Working closely with Facilities teams, accredited practitioners, regulators and service providers, you’ll translate complex technical requirements into practical solutions and drive consistent, best‑practice outcomes across a diverse range of facilities.
About you
You are a capable fire‑safety professional with experience applying compliance and certification processes in complex building or facilities environments. You hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check and are an Accredited Fire Safety Practitioner, or are actively working towards accreditation in accordance with NSW regulatory requirements.
With a relevant technical trade background, such as electrical, plumbing, gas or building—you bring strong knowledge of Australian Standards, the Building Code of Australia and NSW fire‑safety legislation. You are confident assessing fire‑safety systems, identifying technical issues and reviewing maintenance recommendations to ensure safe, compliant and effective outcomes.
