The Opportunity
The Principal Hydrogeologist – Strategic Water Portfolio will play a pivotal role in securing and managing sustainable water resources across our Lithium operations.
This role is responsible for the strategic planning and integration of water management across operational, expansion, and exploration projects to ensure long‑term water security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Water, you will lead a team of hydrogeologists, engage with internal and external stakeholders, and oversee regulatory processes in relation to water licences, rights, and obligations. Your oversight will extend across water balance planning, scenario modelling interpretation, dewatering plan development, discharge route optimisation, and risk mitigation strategies, ensuring MinRes maintains water availability, discharge compliance, and operational readiness throughout project lifecycles.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of water management strategies across multiple Lithium operations.
- Manage regulatory engagements to secure water licences, approvals, rights, and permits.
- Oversee statutory compliance reporting to meet regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Provide technical direction on groundwater and surface water modelling, and interpret results for strategic decision-making.
- Develop long-term water balance scenarios, dewatering schedules, contingency plans, and drought mitigation strategies.
- Guide operational water security planning, including water availability, discharge pathways, and licence compliance.
- Lead and mentor hydrogeology team members while working closely with key stakeholders to align water strategy with operational and asset planning.
What is required?
- Tertiary qualifications in Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in groundwater management, mine dewatering, and excess water discharge compliance within mining or resource projects.
- Proven capability in strategic water planning, dewatering scheduling, and regulatory engagement across multiple operations.
- Strong knowledge of WA water legislation, licensing, and regulatory frameworks, including DWER requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership, technical mentoring, modelling interpretation, and stakeholder engagement across multidisciplinary teams.
