Aftershock PC Australia Full-time | Servicing / Warranty & Repairs Reports to: Servicing Team Lead / Support Manager
About the Role
We're looking for a Workstation Repair Technician to join our Servicing team. You'll diagnose, repair, test, and validate customer systems returned for servicing — spanning high-performance gaming PCs, professional workstations, and corporate systems, including advanced workstation platforms, multi-GPU configurations, ECC memory, Linux-based systems, NAS/storage setups, and custom cooling.
This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who enjoys working directly with PC hardware, troubleshooting complex faults, and ensuring systems are stable before they're returned to customers. The right person is methodical, detail-focused, and comfortable in a fast-paced servicing environment where repair quality, documentation, and turnaround time all matter.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair gaming PCs, workstations, and corporate systems returned for warranty or servicing
- Troubleshoot faults across RAM, storage, PSU, GPU, CPU, motherboard, cooling, thermals, drivers, BIOS/firmware, RAID, networking configuration, and Linux workstation/server issues
- Configure, test, and validate high-end workstation hardware, including AMD Threadripper Pro / EPYC platforms, ECC DDR5 memory, and multi-GPU setups
- Assist with BIOS configuration and tuning: memory profiles, voltage settings, fan curves, BMC/IPMI settings, and stability adjustments
- Perform component replacements using structured troubleshooting to identify root causes — avoiding unnecessary part swaps
- Run pre- and post-repair testing: boot checks, stress testing, thermal and performance checks, memory/storage/I/O testing, and workload-specific validation
- Use diagnostic tools such as MemTest86 Pro, AIDA64, OCCT, FurMark, CrystalDiskMark, 3DMark, fio, stress-ng, and smartctl
- Support Linux-based validation (primarily Ubuntu Server): driver installation, RAID configuration, mounting, and CLI diagnostics
- Assist with NAS, backup, and storage configuration: SMB/NFS shares, snapshots, sync tools, and backup validation
- Configure network settings where required: static IPs, DNS, VLAN tagging, firewall rules, port forwarding, and remote access
- Assist with BMC/IPMI setup, remote KVM, firmware/BIOS updates, and fan control
- Work with open-loop water-cooled systems: leak testing, pump/fan tuning, airflow checks, and loop troubleshooting
- Maintain clear, accurate service notes documenting symptoms, testing, findings, parts replaced, key settings, and validation outcomes
- Escalate complex or high-risk faults, and flag recurring part or build issues to the team lead
- Ensure every system is validated, clean, complete, and dispatch-ready before return
- Follow ESD-safe handling and safe bench practices, and maintain a tidy workspace
What We're Looking For
- Strong PC hardware troubleshooting and repair experience
- Experience with gaming PCs, custom builds, workstations, or high-performance desktops
- Confident handling and replacing CPUs, GPUs, RAM, storage, PSUs, cooling, and motherboards
- Strong understanding of system stability, thermals, power, drivers, firmware, BIOS, storage, and fault isolation
- Experience with workstation-class hardware (Threadripper Pro, EPYC, ECC memory, multi-GPU, or similar)
- Ability to follow structured testing and repair processes with strong attention to detail
- Clear written documentation skills
- Comfortable working to turnaround targets without cutting corners
- Willingness to escalate uncertain issues rather than guess
- A team player suited to a servicing/workshop environment
Highly Regarded
- AMD Threadripper Pro or EPYC platform experience
- Multi-GPU workstation configurations, including NVIDIA RTX-class GPUs
- ECC DDR5 configuration and testing, XMP/DOCP profiles, and memory stability tuning
- Ubuntu Server experience, including CLI troubleshooting and tools such as lshw, nvidia-smi, dmidecode, htop, fio, stress-ng, mdadm, and smartctl
- BMC/IPMI experience: remote KVM, credentials, firmware/BIOS updates, fan curves
- NAS and storage experience: SMB/NFS, Active Directory integration, rsync, Rclone, Veeam, BorgBackup, snapshots, and offsite sync
- Networking knowledge: static IPs, subnetting, VLAN tagging, DNS, firewall rules, port forwarding
- Experience with workstation applications/benchmarks such as Pix4D, Agisoft Metashape, Blender, or V-Ray
- RAID configuration and I/O stress testing (fio, dd, iometer, or similar)
- Open-loop water cooling experience: loop design, leak testing, pump tuning, thermal management
- Understanding of PSU selection and power delivery for high-end or multi-GPU builds
- Experience writing validation checklists or technical documentation for corporate customers
- CompTIA Network+ or Linux+ certification
Why Join Aftershock
- Work hands-on with high-performance PCs, gaming systems, and professional workstations every day
- Develop skills across advanced diagnostics, workstation hardware, Linux validation, storage, networking, and thermal performance
- Join a growing Australian custom PC brand with a team focused on quality repairs and strong customer outcomes
- Be in a role where technical ability, attention to detail, and repair quality genuinely matter
