The Novel Therapeutics & Clinical Trials/Precision Medicine Provisional Fellow is available at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, for the 2027 Clinical Year, from 01 February 2027 to 06 February 2028. The position provides Advanced Trainees an opportunity to further their training, developing skills important for a consultant role in the spheres of clinical care, education and training as well as research with support from the team consultants and other health care professionals. The Provisional Fellow role is a leadership role, both within the department for other junior medical staff and medical students as well as members of the multidisciplinary team, but also across the broader hospital community.
The Novel Therapeutics and Clinical Trials Provisional Fellow position involves a clinical and research role within the team at the Kids Cancer Centre, Sydney Children’s Hospital. This fellowship focuses on the development and provision of early-phase clinical trials for children and adolescents with relapsed/refractory cancers, predominantly solid tumours and brain tumours. The fellowship is designed to provide experience in the principles and practicalities of early phase trials in paediatric oncology and experience in clinical research methods. The fellowship will also provide structured experience in Good Clinical Practice, clinical trial governance, early-phase drug development principles, and the integration of local, national and international clinical trial opportunities into patient care. In addition, the fellowship will provide experience in the principles and practice of paediatric solid tumour and neuro-oncology and the integration of precision oncology, including next-generation approaches to tumour sequencing, with early phase clinical trials.
The Novel Therapeutics and Clinical Trials Fellow will also work closely with the Clinical Trials Team at the Kids Cancer Centre for the enrolment of patients in the ZERO Childhood Cancer national precision medicine trial and be embedded in the ZERO clinician-scientist team in Children’s Cancer Institute to deliver precision medicine to children with cancer nationally. The education role includes clinical supervision within the Haematology and Oncology Team as well as participating in the regular lecture series, RACP clinical examination preparation and clinical teaching for the Paediatric Basic and Advanced Trainees.

Selection Criteria:

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an Advanced Trainee or equivalent at commencement of fellowship, or recently completed training in paediatric medical oncology and achieved FRACP status or equivalent.

Minimum of 12 months previous Haematology and Oncology experience.

Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.

Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, with a willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.

Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal.

Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent time management, problem solving skills, clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
