Premier Removals Pty Ltd is an established removals, transport and storage company based in Townsville, Queensland, with our main operational depot in Brisbane. We provide local, interstate and long-distance freight, container transport and relocation services across Australia.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Truck Driver to join our Townsville depot on a full-time, permanent basis.
The primary focus of this role is running freight containers between our Brisbane depot and Townsville on a regular schedule. The role also involves the transport of general freight and other consignments, including but not limited to customers' household goods and personal effects, cars, boats, motorcycles and commercial cargo.
Tasks and Duties
- Driving heavy vehicles to transport freight containers between Brisbane and Townsville, and general freight on local, regional and interstate routes
- Transporting a variety of consignments including containerised freight, household goods and personal effects, vehicles (cars, motorcycles), boats and general cargo
- Manoeuvring vehicles into position for loading and unloading at depots, wharves and customer sites
- Loading and unloading vehicles using lifting equipment and manual handling techniques
- Checking loads for correct weight distribution and ensuring goods and containers are stowed, restrained and secured in accordance with load restraint requirements
- Estimating weights to ensure compliance with vehicle load limits
- Observing all workplace health and safety requirements when loading and transporting goods
- Receiving job and delivery instructions from dispatch via our job management system
- Completing work diaries, run sheets and delivery documentation, including records of driving hours and vehicle servicing
- Conducting pre-start vehicle inspections and carrying out routine cleaning and minor maintenance of the vehicle
- Complying with all fatigue management, chain of responsibility and Heavy Vehicle National Law obligations
Requirements
- Current Australian Heavy Combination (HC) licence preferred
- Heavy Rigid (HR) licence holders with solid heavy vehicle experience will also be considered, provided they are willing and able to upgrade to an HC licence within the 6 months of employment (initially duties can be managed with our rigid vehicles and trailer until the upgrade is obtained)
- Demonstrated experience driving heavy vehicles in a transport, freight or removals environment
- Sound knowledge of load restraint, fatigue management and heavy vehicle road rules
- Availability for regular long-distance runs between Brisbane and Townsville, including overnight stays
- Clean driving record and willingness to undergo a medical assessment
- Strong reliability, communication skills and a professional approach when attending customer sites
