Trainee Psychiatrist Year 1-7 $175,576 to $235,046 p.a. pro rata
Salary applicable to locations North of the 26° South Latitude
Registrar Year 3 $200,773 p.a. pro rata
HSMP Year 1-6 $301,700 to $378,680 p.a. pro rata
All salaries are inclusive of base salary, professional development allowance and 12% superannuation. Salary rates are effective as of 3 September 2026.

WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is recruiting applicants to commence Stage 1 Rural Psychiatry Training Western Australia (RPTWA). This is a recruitment pool to fill Fixed Term Full time or Fixed part time appointments for eligible applicants commencing in February 2027. Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 06/07/2027.
Applicants will be assessed to determine the classification level in accordance with employment requirements. Successful applicants will be offered a length of training contract to align with training requirements.
Applicants who identify as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island, Māori or as being from a rural origins background will automatically be offered an interview, providing they meet the eligibility criteria in accordance with the RANZCP Registration for Entry into Training, Education and Training Policy and Procedure. The Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program is overseen by the Western Australia Psychiatry Training Committee, in accordance with the requirements for obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). Successful applicants will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary and medical teams. Under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, this position provides assessment and management for clients requiring specialist psychiatric care.

To be eligible for a training position you must have:
At the time of application
- Successful completion of a medical degree
- Current unrestricted General Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
At commencement of training:
- Completed two years (FTE) of general medical training

Essential Criteria
- Eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner.
- Eligible for admission to Training of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists for basic training (stages 1-3).
- Demonstrated desire to obtain knowledge of/and experience in biological and psychotherapeutic interventions.
- Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a multidisciplinary interest.
- Demonstrated analytical ability.
- Highly developed report writing and policy formulation skills.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated computer skills to enable management of medical and patient records, navigation of online policy access, internal communication and completing online learning resources.
- Eligible for / or in possession of a current C or C-A Class drivers licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Understanding of the issues around providing Mental Health services with a rural community, including provision of culturally appropriate services to indigenous families and communities.
- Knowledge of the Western Australian Mental Health Act 2014 and other related legislation.
- Understanding of and experience of working within RANZCP policies and guidelines.
- Relevant training or experience in education.
