About the role
The Manager, Closing the Gap leads the design, implementation and evaluation of strategic initiatives that support the delivery of the NSW Department of Education’s commitments under the Nation Agreement on Closing the Gap. The role drives system wide reform by strengthening governance, embedding shared decision making, coordinating complex projects and performance reporting, and fosters strong partnerships across the department and with the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc. (NSW AECG) to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, families and communities. The responsibilities include:
- Leading the implementation of Closing the Gap Priority Reforms across the department.
- Providing strategic advice to senior executives on Closing the Gap policy, governance and implementation.
- Establishing reporting, monitoring and evaluation processes to strengthen accountability, manage risk and measure outcomes.
- Building strong partnerships with senior stakeholders to drive collaboration and improve cross -functional delivery.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and system reform to strengthen outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, families and communities.

About you -
- Experience leading strategic projects, driving organisational change and delivering outcomes in a large, complex environment.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships across government, Aboriginal organisations and diverse groups.
- Experience embedding governance, performance reporting, evaluation and continuous improvement practices to support effective program delivery.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Policy, the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and the principles of Closing the Gap to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

- This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position.
