We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our central kitchen operations and catering division. This is a key leadership role responsible for maintaining high culinary standards across our venues and delivering exceptional food for on-site and off-site events.
Our central kitchen is the main production hub, supplying the majority of products for our venues and all catering operations. You will also oversee our Botanic Gardens Catering Company, which handles weddings, corporate events, and visitor services, utilising Evas Café as a key event space.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong leadership and day-to-day management of the central kitchen team.
- Oversee all kitchen operations, food production, quality control, and staff performance to maintain consistent high standards.
- Manage menu development, costing, and pricing to ensure profitability and relevance.
- Coordinate bulk production for on-site venues and off-site catering events.
- Work closely with the Botanic Gardens Catering team to deliver seamless wedding and corporate functions, utilising the main production kitchen for preparation and the event centre kitchenette for final plating and service.
- Supervise additional product lines (curries, sauces, pastes, etc.) produced across our network of venues.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health & safety standards.
- Mentor and develop kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
- Monitor inventory, ordering, and equipment maintenance.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in a busy kitchen environment, ideally with catering and event experience.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
- Excellent knowledge of menu planning, costing, and kitchen operations.
- Experience in high-volume production and event catering (weddings & corporate) is highly regarded.
- Passion for quality food and delivering exceptional guest experiences.
- Must have full work rights in Australia (Australian citizen, permanent resident, or valid long-term work visa) or be a local Darwin resident.
- Current Australian food safety supervisor certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- Reliable, organised, and able to work flexible hours including weekends and event days.
