The Small Engine Mechanic will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of a broad range of hire equipment powered by small petrol and diesel engines. The position is hands-on and requires someone who can work efficiently, diagnose faults accurately and ensure equipment is maintained to a safe and reliable standard before returning to hire.
Key responsibilities
- Service, maintain and repair small petrol and diesel engines
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and fuel-system faults
- Repair and maintain equipment including generators, pumps, compactors, concrete equipment, demolition equipment, lawn and garden equipment and other general hire machinery
- Carry out preventative and scheduled maintenance
- Inspect returned equipment and identify required repairs
- Test equipment following repairs to ensure it is safe and operating correctly
- Maintain accurate service and repair records
- Identify parts and components required for repairs
- Assist with maintaining workshop cleanliness and organisation
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures
About you
- Relevant mechanical trade qualification or equivalent recognised qualification in small engines, outdoor power equipment, automotive, plant or a closely related mechanical field
- Previous experience servicing and repairing small petrol and diesel engines
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience working with small plant, construction equipment, hire equipment or similar machinery is highly regarded
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good understanding of safe workshop practices
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Current Australian driver's licence or the ability to obtain one
Pay: $79,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
