What you'll be doing
The Mental Health Peer Workforce Professional Lead provides strategic direction, professional leadership, governance, and support for Mental Health Peer Workers and Carer Peer Workers across the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network (SCHN), in alignment with SCHN’s Strategic Plan and NSW Health’s Elevating Lived Experience Expertise: A Framework.
The position is responsible for championing, strengthening and leading lived experience participation, engagement and capability in mental health service planning, co-design, delivery and evaluation across the Mental Health Department and Priority Populations Stream. The Professional Lead drives the development of workforce structures, strategies, and frameworks that sustain a thriving peer workforce, works with leaders to implement and embed peer work roles, and partners with senior leaders to support, develop and grow the peer workforce.

- Demonstrated personal lived experience as a consumer with, or carer for someone with, mental health challenges and meaningful recovery.
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in acute mental health service and a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or relevant tertiary qualification.
- An understanding of the nature of mental health service delivery, including knowledge of State and national policies and directions for mental health services.
- Demonstrated skills in leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem solving to enable implementation and improvement in service delivery.
- Ability to translate lived experience into safe purposeful, and professional practice leadership. This includes proven ability to uphold peer work ethics, practice standards, and epistemic justice.
- Demonstrated capacity in advanced Peer Work practice, including capacity to provide guidance, reflective supervision and mentoring to Peer Workers.
- Demonstrated abilities in cultivating psychologically safe, inclusive and recovery-oriented workplace cultures.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality improvement, incident review, risk management and policy development while protecting the integrity of peer practice.
