Join our team as a Senior Communications Adviser
This isn't your typical communications role. We're seeking a communications and engagement professional who understands planning and development and can confidently translate complex concepts into meaningful community engagement initiatives. In this role, you'll lead strategic communications and community engagement for significant city planning initiatives, helping to connect complex projects with the people they impact. This is a fantastic opportunity to join Council in a long-term contract role through to 30 June 2028, with the potential for extension.
Your responsibilities will include:
Strategic Communications – Develop and deliver communication, media and marketing strategies for major city planning projects and initiatives.
Community Engagement – Lead consultation and engagement programs that encourage meaningful community participation.
Planning Project Advocacy – Translate complex planning and development matters into clear, accessible information for diverse audiences.
Stakeholder Management – Build strong relationships with community groups, elected representatives, media and key stakeholders.
Content & Campaign Development – Create compelling messaging, positioning, branding and digital content that drives engagement.
Workshop Facilitation – Plan and deliver community information sessions, workshops and public engagement activities.
Project Leadership – Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality communications outcomes on time and within scope.
Planning & Governance – Manage budgets, project plans and reporting to support successful project delivery.
Skills and experience:
Experience delivering strategic communications, engagement and media campaigns within a large or complex organisation.
Demonstrated experience supporting major planning, development or city-shaping projects.
Strong understanding of planning and development processes, including statutory consultation requirements.
Proven ability to design and deliver community engagement programs and public consultation activities.
Experience providing strategic communications advice to senior leaders, elected representatives or executive stakeholders.
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence, negotiate and build trusted relationships.
Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional project teams and managing competing priorities.
Ability to work autonomously, manage budgets and deliver outcomes within tight deadlines.

Eligibility:
- You'll hold a current C class licence
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Communications, Marketing or equivalent relevant industry experience, desirable but not essential
