Residential Care Officer
Full-Time | Auburn, NSW | $80,000 – $85,000 + Superannuation
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Care Officer to join our team and provide care, supervision and support to residents in a residential group-home environment.
The successful applicant will work closely with residents to support their individual needs, wellbeing, independence and participation in daily and community activities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day care, supervision and support to residents living in a residential group-home environment.
Assess residents’ individual needs and contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate support, education and development programs.
Meet with residents to understand their circumstances, needs, goals and any social, emotional or practical difficulties they may be experiencing.
Develop positive and professional relationships with residents and provide appropriate assistance in accordance with their individual support requirements.
Monitor residents’ wellbeing, development, behaviour and progress and provide regular updates and reports to management and relevant professionals.
Maintain accurate progress notes, case records, incident reports and other documentation relating to residents’ care and support.
Assist residents with daily living activities and encourage independence, confidence and participation.
Support residents to develop practical, social and life skills through appropriate educational, recreational and training activities.
Assist residents to access community services, employment, education, training, recreational activities and other available resources.
Identify when residents may require additional assistance and facilitate referrals to appropriate health, welfare, community and specialist services.
Liaise with families, carers, community organisations, welfare agencies, government bodies, health professionals and other relevant service providers.
Assist residents and their families to understand and access appropriate community resources and support services.
Monitor changes in residents’ circumstances and support requirements and communicate relevant information to the appropriate personnel.
Contribute to case discussions, support planning and reviews concerning residents’ progress and ongoing needs.
Assist with identifying community resources and services that may benefit residents.
Promote residents’ dignity, safety, inclusion, independence and participation within the home and broader community.
Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies and changes in residents’ needs and escalate matters in accordance with organisational procedures.
Follow individual support plans, workplace policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and applicable legislation.
Work collaboratively with other staff members and external service providers to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development and other activities relevant to the provision of residential care.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Experience working in residential care, disability services, community services, welfare or a related field.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to understand and respond appropriately to individual support needs.
Good written communication, reporting and record-keeping skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A caring, respectful and professional approach to supporting residents.
The ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in residential care, disability, community services, welfare or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
