Job Summary
Exciting opportunity to join the ConocoPhillips Australia HSE Team as Environmental Engineer – Emissions & Compliance.
Position Overview
ConocoPhillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.
The Environmental Engineer – Emissions & Compliance is an expert in Australian environmental compliance, including emission data collection, storage and assessment, compliance reporting and supporting assurance audits.
As a member of the Australian Business Unit (ABU) Environmental and Sustainable Development (E&SD) team, this role partners with other departments to undertake these compliance activities for the APLNG facility operations, projects and other ABU activities. This includes the management of environmental data and associated compliance reporting including for the National Greenhouse and Energy Report, National Pollutant Inventory, UN Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP), air quality, water quality, biodiversity, regulated waste, company environmental metrics, emissions forecasting and benchmarking.
Maintain environmental data management systems and enable delivery of ABU environmental improvement initiatives
Gather, maintain and analyse datasets, for the purposes of emissions monitoring and biodiversity. Develop and/or maintain automated compliance programs that can be used for continuous improvement in data quality and data integrity for environmental reports.
Deliver ABU emissions monitoring and assessment activities, engaging with all operational stakeholders to plan and schedule activities, communicate status and monitoring outcomes.
Assist in preparing data aspects of company and joint venture sustainability reports, including developing and reviewing scope 1 and 2 emissions data, assisting with scope 3 emissions estimates, and undertaking emissions forecasting and scenario analysis.
Support the undertaking of OGMP methane emission measurement. Develop ABU components of COP OGMP submissions including collating and analysing data to provide relevant interpretations for operated assets and JV non-operated assets.
Update internal documentation to maintain processes supporting emissions data is collected to calculate emissions to enable successful assurance audits for submitted compliance reports.
Support ABU in dealings with COP company, agencies (Federal and State), industry associations, JV partners and other partners, as required.
Provide technical input on various internal, joint venture and external initiatives around environmental compliance including GHG and air emissions and climate disclosures.
Be an authority in the use of tools and technology associated with environmental emissions management (i.e., data collection, analytical methods, performance testing protocols/procedures, electronic reporting tools)
Provide environmental technical knowledge to operations and engineering from early in the planning process to proactively embed environmental considerations into design, planning, and implementation of projects being assessed and/or developed.
Undertake or participate in Teir I and II environmental audits or assurance activities.
You will bring to the role

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Science or Engineering.
7+ years of experience in developing and undertaking GHG/air emissions, energy, National Pollutant Inventory, environmental approval annual returns and other environmental compliance reporting for resources sector.
Demonstrated experience in completing reasonably assured national greenhouse and energy / safeguard mechanism reporting for submittal to the Clean Energy Regulator.
Demonstrated ability to maintain emissions/environmental monitoring-related management-system documents and meet regulatory/approval compliance and company deliverables.
Demonstrated ability to influence, engage and build trusted partnerships across diverse teams to deliver business outcomes.
Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time on an annual basis.
