The opportunity
The Animal Collection Officer is a critical frontline role within Council's Community Safety and Compliance team. Working primarily in the field, you'll support Animal Management Officers through animal collections, park patrols, animal waste bag replacement, investigations and pound operations. This role plays a direct part in promoting community safety, animal welfare and responsible pet ownership while helping Council meet key service delivery targets, including patrol coverage, complaint response times and compliance activities.
What you’ll do
- Safely collect, transport and care for animals in accordance with animal welfare standards and legislation.
- Conduct patrols across parks, beaches and public spaces to support compliance and community safety.
- Assist with investigations, complaint responses and operational animal management activities.
- Support pound operations including impoundments, transfers, cleaning and facility maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records, replace animal waste bags and provide high-quality customer service and community education.
What you need to succeed
- Experience in animal handling, animal welfare, local government, compliance or customer-facing roles.
- Ability to safely and humanely handle, restrain and transport animals, including injured or distressed animals.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage positively with community members and stakeholders.
- Sound administrative skills including record keeping and the use of mobile technology and computer systems.
- Current Victorian Driver Licence, Working with Children Check and ability to obtain a National Police Check.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Progressed candidates will be required to complete a National Police Record Check, a Pre-Employment Medical Check & a Working With Children Check (WWCC). Candidates must also hold a valid Victorian Driver's License.
