Pastry Chef: Fixed-Term Full Time (Maternity Leave Contract)
Henry’s Bakery Café is a well-established retail and wholesale bakery known for producing high-quality breads, pies, cakes, pastries, and baked goods enjoyed throughout our local community. We are proud of our reputation for quality, consistency, and strong teamwork, and we are looking for a skilled Pastry Chef to join our production team on a fixed-term maternity leave contract commencing in August.
About the Role
As a Pastry Chef, you will be responsible for producing a wide range of pastries, cakes, slices, desserts, and sweet baked goods to a consistently high standard. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is passionate about pastry, takes pride in their craft, and enjoys working in a fast-paced production environment.
This is a full-time fixed-term contract to cover a period of maternity leave, commencing in August.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, bake, decorate, and finish a variety of pastries, cakes, slices, desserts, tarts, biscuits, and other sweet baked goods.
- Prepare fillings, creams, custards, icings, glazes, and other pastry components.
- Ensure consistent quality, presentation, and product standards across all products.
- Follow recipes, production schedules, and preparation procedures accurately.
- Monitor product quality throughout all stages of production.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the bakery team to meet daily production targets.
- Assist with seasonal, specialty, and custom product production as required.
About You
- Previous experience as a Pastry Chef or Pastry Cook in a commercial bakery, café, hotel, or patisserie.
- Strong knowledge of pastry techniques, baking methods, and dessert production.
- Experience decorating cakes and finishing pastry products to a high standard.
- Commitment to producing consistent, high-quality products.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Positive, team-focused attitude with good communication skills.
- Comfortable working early morning shifts.

- Salary: $72,500 per annum (pro rata) plus superannuation
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday roster
- Thursday and Sunday off each week
- Hours: 3:00am – 11:00am
