What you'll do
As the First Nations Nursing Director (Identified), you will provide strategic leadership to advance First Nations nursing workforce priorities across Queensland, driving initiatives that support attraction, recruitment, retention and professional growth. You will lead and influence statewide workforce strategies, programs and projects, collaborating with key stakeholders to deliver outcomes that strengthen First Nations health services and workforce capability. Drawing on your expertise in change management, you will guide the implementation of strategic nursing workforce directions, develop high-level briefs and policy responses, and provide expert advice to senior executives, including the Deputy Director-General, Director-General and Minister. You will champion education and lifelong learning by supporting the development of First Nations nursing career pathways, graduate programs and workforce development initiatives, while analysing emerging trends in healthcare, education and workforce planning. Working in partnership with Hospital and Health Services, government agencies, professional bodies and community stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of innovative models of care, nursing practice and service delivery that improve outcomes for First Nations peoples. Through professional leadership, collaboration and a commitment to excellence, you will foster a positive practice culture, strengthen workforce capability and help shape the future of First Nations nursing across Queensland.
The successful person
The essential requirements for this role are:
The person performing this role is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:
of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a nurse. Extensive post registration clinical experience.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Comprehensive knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues and priorities at a national and state level and an understanding of the implications for policy, service delivery and workforce to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
High level people skills to work collaboratively and in negotiation, influencing, advocacy, communication, consultation and harnessing the collective efforts of diverse stakeholders at strategic and operational levels, including health professionals, government and non- government organisations and community organisations.
