Year 8 English & Maths Tutor – In-Home | Brighton
Great tutoring isn’t just about helping a student get through their homework. It’s about helping them become a more confident, capable and independent learner.
Matching Minds is looking for an experienced, reliable and genuinely committed tutor to work one-on-one with a Year 8 student in their home in Brighton.
This is a long-term opportunity for someone who wants to build a genuine connection with their student, take an active interest in their academic progress and support them throughout their high school years.
About the role
The student is looking for 3–4 hours of tutoring each week across English and Maths.
While subject knowledge is important, we’re looking for someone who can provide much more than help with schoolwork.
The right tutor will work closely with the student to:
- Support them across Year 8 English and Maths
- Break difficult concepts down into clear, easy-to-understand steps
- Review upcoming assignments, tests and academic priorities
- Help create and manage an effective study schedule
- Develop stronger study habits and organisational skills
- Support the completion and management of homework
- Help the student become a more confident and independent learner
- Take an active interest in their progress and development
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Patient, positive, encouraging and motivating
- Confident tutoring both secondary English and Maths
- Able to connect with and mentor a high school student
- Genuinely interested in seeing their student improve and succeed
- Organised and proactive in helping manage academic priorities
- Able to adapt their teaching style and break concepts down clearly
- A strong communicator with both students and families
- Reliable and committed to showing up consistently
- Looking for a long-term tutoring opportunity
The commitment
Consistency is incredibly important for this student and their family.
We’re looking for someone who can commit to 3–4 hours per week and, importantly, is interested in building a long-term relationship with the student over the years to come.
Please only apply if you can genuinely make this commitment.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A current Working with Children Check
- Your own ABN
- Experience supporting secondary school students
- Confidence tutoring both English and Maths
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine commitment to helping students build confidence and succeed
Opportunity for ongoing tutoring work
While this role is initially focused on supporting one student, we’re always looking for great tutors to join the Matching Minds team.
For the right person, there may be opportunities to work with additional students and take on more tutoring hours based on your availability.
If you’re reliable, communicate well, genuinely care about your students and deliver a great tutoring experience, we’d love to build an ongoing relationship with you.
