Primary objective
Provide cultural advice and assist with the coordination of support services to the Child and Family Centre including undertaking a
range of face to face and office tasks at the centre and across the community to support engagement of families and children and
integration of services.
Context statement
DoE is working in partnership with NT communities to build high quality integrated early childhood services system that meets the
needs of young children and families and gives every child the best start in life. Working with the community, the position is to
ensure services are supported administratively and effectively engaged with community.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop, through active identification of opportunities, community engagement activities that support Indigenous child rearing
family practices and facilitate integration with the Child and Family Centre.
2. Promote the Child and Family Centre to existing and potential participants through a range of mechanisms targeted at different
locations and community groups including preparing for and presenting professional information sessions to promote
understanding and engagement.
3. Provide effective support to community-based reference groups including arranging meetings, distributing information and
follow up of issues.
4. Facilitate effective dispute resolution at a family level including identifying the issues, working through different options to
resolve and escalating as required.
5. Provide administrative and logistical support to the Child and Family Centre manager to support active engagement, data
reporting and analysis, and preparing grant applications.
6. Provide assistance with the management and facilitation of the ongoing collaborative training and professional development of
Indigenous staff within the centre and supporting the programs within the centre.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in working with early childhood programs and local indigenous child rearing practices including
organising and facilitating community engagement activities and programs
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively including conflict resolution skills high level oral and written communication
skills and working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft applications
3. Sound organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and to work effectively within a team to achieve
organisational skills
4. Experience working in community service provision at a community level and an ability to interact with people from diverse
cultures.
5. Hold a current NT Drivers Licence
Desirable
1. Hold current LR (Light Rigid) NT Drivers Licence.
2. Have relevant community services qualification or tertiary learning
