About us
The Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA) is a statutory decision-maker responsible for a range of liquor, registered club and gaming machine regulatory functions including determining licensing and disciplinary matters under gaming and liquor legislation.
ILGA takes a risk-based approach to discharging its functions. This means that ILGA will refer to the statutory objects and specific statutory criteria for making decisions set out in the liquor and gaming legislation. ILGA will also consider relevant liquor and gaming related research and evidence, including crime, demographic and health statistics.
All ILGA Members are subject to a Code of Ethics and Conduct, including a requirement to disclose any real or potential conflict of interest and undertake not to disclose any Authority information except in the exercise of functions under the gaming and liquor legislation.
Chairperson
About the role
The part-time Chairperson leads and governs the Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority representing the vision and purpose of the Authority and chairing meetings. The Chairperson ensures that the Authority functions properly, that all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made, communicated and carried out. As the accountable authority, the Chairperson has additional responsibilities under the Government Sector Finance Act 2018, the Government Sector Employment Act 2013, and a range of government policy and reporting frameworks.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have extensive knowledge and understanding of regulatory frameworks. You will have credibility as an independent advisor and proven capability as a leader or chair of a complex large or statewide organisation.
Applicants with experience in law enforcement, corporate governance or accounting, operation of licensed venues and music festivals and/or harm minimisation is preferable.
You will have extensive experience in facilitating sensitive deliberations that involve stakeholder groups with strong and opposing views in a complex and highly contested environment. Your experience in balancing competing interests and demands will be crucial to your success in this role.
The Chairperson will be required to have expertise or experience in one or more of the following:
- licensed venues or music festivals and their operations
- liquor, registered clubs and gaming sectors
- regulation of high-risk industries
- law enforcement, including in relation to financial crime
- accounting or corporate governance
- harm minimisation.
Deputy Chairperson
About the role
The Deputy Chairperson provides expert advice and decision-making to the Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority. In addition to their role as a member of the Authority the Deputy Chairperson supports the Chairperson, in their responsibilities as accountable authority, chairs Authority meetings in the absence of the Chairperson, and engages and actively participates in Authority meetings to ensure that all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made, communicated and carried out.

To be successful in this role, you will have strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory frameworks. Applicants with experience in law enforcement, corporate governance, accounting, operation of licensed venues and music festivals or harm minimisation is preferable.

The Members provide expert advice and decision-making to the Authority and engage and actively participate in Authority meetings to ensure that all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carried out. Authority members will also need to attend subcommittees of the Authority as required.
