About the role
The Manager, Strategic Projects & Service Improvement, manages and oversees the team responsible for managing the development, delivery and evaluation of complex projects to achieve the Department’s strategic objectives and enable effective and efficient financial services for schools.

The main responsibilities are:
- Manage and oversee the development and delivery of strategic reform and service improvement projects to deliver the Department’s strategic priorities.
- Manage all aspects of project development and implementation end to end
- Lead the consultation and collaboration with other Finance teams, key departmental teams and executives in scoping projects to identify resourcing requirements to deliver all key milestones and outcomes.
- Provide expert strategic advice to the Director, senior management and key internal and external stakeholders (including schools) on the progress of projects to identify emerging issues that may impact outcome objectives.
- Coordinate the development and provision of mitigating strategies to address identified issues and associated risks.
- Build and maintain strong relationship with Finance teams and other key stakeholders to enable the transition of strategic reform project outcomes, to business-as-usual activities.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of strategies and tools to support continuous improvement and consistency across the planning and delivery of strategic reform projects.
- Manage the performance and development of team members to ensure individual needs are met while building a high performing and cohesive operational unit to meet objectives, and managing emerging issues / risks
About you:
- Demonstrated experience in a strategic role, leading and managing a team
- Demonstrated experience leading portfolios of projects end to end
- Demonstrated experience leading innovative solution design for complex organisational challenges
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Be able to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Experience working in a environment of change
Key knowledge and experience
- Extensive experience in project design, development and delivery / implementation in government agencies or commercial enterprises
- Substantial experience in managing teams and working collaboratively with a wide range of senior stakeholders to influence behaviour and achieve outcomes.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
