Welder Role Overview:
- Aluminium and Steel Welding: Carry out high-quality aluminium and steel welding on marine vessels, shipyard structures and components, primarily using MIG and/or TIG processes, with a strong focus on weld preparation, quality, consistency and safe work practices.
- Fabrication Support: Assist with fitting, assembling and repairing aluminium and steel vessel structures and components including hull sections, decks, cabins, consoles, rails, brackets, tanks and other marine fit-out items.
- Drawing Interpretation & Practical Skills: Read and follow workshop drawings, jigs, templates and work instructions to accurately measure, mark out, cut, prepare and assemble aluminium and steel materials.
- Safety, Quality & Housekeeping: Work safely in a busy shipyard environment, follow hot-work and lifting controls, maintain clean work areas, complete quality checks, and contribute to a strong “make it happen safely” team culture.
Skills / Experience:
Essential
- No trade qualification required: We are looking for capable welders with practical aluminium and steel welding experience, a strong work ethic and the ability to produce clean, consistent work. Trade qualifications are welcomed but are not essential.
- Aluminium and Steel Welding Experience: Demonstrated ability to prepare materials, set up welding equipment, complete aluminium and steel welds, and work to required quality and safety standards in a workshop or shipyard environment.
- Practical Fabrication Skills: Ability to read basic workshop drawings, measure accurately, mark out work, cut and prepare aluminium and steel, and assist with the assembly of marine components.
- Construction industry white card, or willingness to obtain one before commencing on site.
- Service-oriented team player with a “make it happen safely” attitude.
Desirable
- Strong aluminium and steel MIG and/or TIG welding capability, with experience producing clean, consistent welds suitable for marine and heavy fabrication applications.
- Experience fabricating aluminium and steel hull structures, consoles, cabins, hardtops, rails, tanks, brackets and vessel fit-out components.
Current welding tickets, marine industry experience, forklift, dogging, rigging, EWP or working at heights qualifications will be highly regarded.
