The ZERO Senior Scientist, is a critical scientific and operational leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, clinically accredited diagnostic services for the ZERO Childhood Cancer Program. This position provides strategic and hands-on leadership for diagnostic laboratory operations, quality management system (QMS) implementation, and the comprehensive validation of diagnostic testing and clinical reporting workflows to ISO 15189:2022 and NATA accreditation standards.
To succeed you will have…
- PhD in molecular biology, genomics, cancer biology, or bachelor's degree plus 10+ years in clinical molecular diagnostics Minimum 5 years post-doctoral or senior scientist experience in clinical molecular diagnostics or precision medicine
- Demonstrated experience leading NATA accredited (or equivalent) diagnostic laboratory operations including workflow management, resource allocation, and staff coordination
- Experience supervising and mentoring technical and scientific staff
- Extensive hands-on expertise in molecular diagnostic methods including NGS, nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, and quality control
- Proven experience developing, validating, and verifying diagnostic assays in compliance with ISO 15189, NPAAC, or equivalent clinical laboratory standards
- Experience implementing quality management systems and preparing for accreditation assessments
- Experience with equipment qualification, calibration, and laboratory safety management
- Strong organisational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
- Proven track record of scientific contribution through peer-reviewed publications
