Sylvania High School is a comprehensive high school located in the Sutherland Shire and residing on the land of the Dharawal speaking people. The student population is approximately 750 with 35% EAL/D students and 27 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students. Our school has a well-established reputation for outstanding academic, performing arts, sporting and leadership achievements.
The school has highly extra curricular programs that enable students to develop their skills and potential to be well prepared for the world beyond school. The school's core values of scholarship, honour and service promote high expectations of performance and behaviour, as well as dispositions for learning. The school has a Support Unit with three Autism (AU) classes, and one Intellectually Moderate/Autism (IO/AU) class. Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
