Assistant Project Officer
Location – Parramatta Hybrid working
Employment type – Temporary until 30 June 2028
Salary – GR5/6 $ 99,938 - $ 110,271 plus superannuation
Your role
The NSW Government is determined to make NSW a place where everyone has access to safe and secure housing, and where experiences of homelessness are rare, brief and non-recurring.
Homes NSW is a division of the Department of Communities and Justice. It brings together the housing and homelessness functions of the Department of Communities and Justice, the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, Aboriginal Housing Office and key worker housing functions from across government all under one roof.
Assist in managing and implementing a range of projects across Homes NSW, to support and improve service delivery and optimise outcomes in the portfolio performance and stakeholder relations.
The role applies asset management principals to develop Professional Service Briefs for Asset Sales, redevelopment and upgrade opportunities, and applies knowledge of Council Easements, Deeds of License, Access and Agreements to support service delivery.
What you’ll do
Conduct high‑quality research and analysis to provide timely, well‑considered advice, recommendations and resolutions on high‑priority complaint matters.
Govern, identify and appropriately escalate contentious and complex issues to mitigate operational, financial and reputational risks to Homes NSW.
Demonstrate strong adaptability, effectively managing competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment with critical deadlines.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues across Escalations, Housing Services, DCJ Legal and key stakeholders.
Monitor and track progress to ensure information, evidence and PONs are delivered within NCAT‑mandated timelines and Homes NSW procedures.
Support and govern responses to preliminary Ombudsman enquiries, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timely delivery.
Assist in preparing a range of project related documents including briefing notes, status updates, reports, budgets and discussion papers.
Utilise and implement project management methodologies and processes in all projects.
Assist in managing a range of projects to deliver initiatives to Homes NSW.
What we’re looking for
Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline are desirable, or an equivalent combination of skills, knowledge, and practical experience, with a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and stakeholder engagement
Understanding of project management practices.
Understanding of asset management principals in the development of Professional Service Briefs for Asset Sales, Redevelopment and Upgrade opportunities.
Understanding of Council Easements, Deeds of Licence, Access and Agreements as well as State and Local Government Policy in an asset management environment.
Essential requirements
Understanding of the Australian Building Codes, Australian Standards, Government or commercial probity and contracting standards.
Current driver’s licence.
