The opportunity:
As our Business Manager, you will:
- Manage the development and delivery of a wide range of services including project and program management, research commercialisation and facilitate science operational excellence by partnering across finance, procurement and human resources.
- Negotiate contract terms and conditions and work together with Legal Officers to ensure all R&D and commercial contracts are effectively and efficiently executed, implemented and managed.
- Champion Intellectual Property (IP) management including IP protected and commercialisation.
- Oversee contemporary reporting of the performance of the business group, including providing high-level advice to the General Manager, in line with best practice business within government.
- Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of complex reports, submissions, briefings notes, presentations, and correspondence.
- Work together with the Agri-Science Queensland General Managers and internal stakeholders to lead the development and implementation of common business management procedures and best practice outcomes for the Agri-Science division.
- Establish networks with industry, research and development fund providers, clients and stakeholders to maintain interaction of state-wide, national and international developments and recommend to the Unit's Management Team strategies to address key issues.
- Maintain a strong demonstrated commitment to continued learning and seek opportunities to enhance own skills and foster a similar environment for subordinate staff and peers.
- Supervise and lead multi-disciplinary staff within the business services unit with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation in delivering high quality results.
- Adhere to the Department's Code of Conduct, including the principles and practices of employment equity, ethical conduct and workplace health and safety.
Technical Requirements of the role:
- Skills in negotiating, developing and administering business agreements with commercial and other partners and contractors.
- Knowledge of the processes for the identification and development of commercialisation opportunities to advance the business, including the effective utilisation of intellectual property generated by Crop and Food Science.
- Knowledge of, or an interest to learn about, Intellectual Property types and associated management and administration processes.
- Personal attributes including diplomacy, leadership, ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
- High level of communication and negotiation skills.
