FOOD COORDINATOR – SPIRALS EARLY LEARNING ARMADALE
Monday–Friday | Part-Time | Early Childhood Education & Care
Are you the kind of person who can make a nutritious lunch, remember who can't have egg, keep a kitchen sparkling AND somehow still have time to make fruit look exciting? We want to hear from you!
Spirals Early Learning Armadale is looking for a passionate, organised and enthusiastic Food Coordinator to take ownership of our kitchen and help keep our little learners happy, healthy and well-fed.
This is a 5-day-per-week role, Monday to Friday, perfect for someone who loves working independently, takes pride in their space and isn't afraid to go above and beyond.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll be the superstar behind our children's daily meals and snacks, including:
- Preparing fresh, nutritious and child-friendly morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
- Following and contributing to our rotating seasonal menus
- Catering safely for allergies, intolerances, cultural requirements and individual dietary needs
- Managing allergen-specific meals with exceptional attention to detail
- Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene and cross-contamination controls
- Completing required temperature checks, food safety records and kitchen documentation
- Managing stock levels, food rotation and expiry dates
- Assisting with grocery ordering and keeping the kitchen well stocked without unnecessary waste
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and ready for action
- Communicating closely with educators and management regarding children's dietary requirements
- Supporting special events, celebrations and centre experiences with food where appropriate
- Helping us continually improve our menus and food practices
- Taking genuine ownership of the kitchen rather than simply completing a list of tasks
We're Looking for Someone Who...
Has initiative — if you see something that needs doing, you do it.
We'd love someone who:
- Is reliable, punctual and organised
- Has strong food preparation and kitchen experience
- Understands food safety and allergen management
- Can confidently work independently
- Has excellent attention to detail
- Can manage multiple dietary requirements without becoming overwhelmed
- Takes pride in cleanliness and presentation
- Is comfortable communicating with educators, management and families
- Can manage their time effectively in a busy environment
- Brings positivity and good energy to work
- Is open to feedback and always looking for ways to improve
- Understands that in childcare, "close enough" isn't close enough when it comes to allergies and food safety
- Is willing to jump in, contribute and become a valued part of the wider Spirals team
Going Above & Beyond
We're not looking for someone who wants to hide away in the kitchen and count down until home time.
We're looking for someone who might think:
"We've got bananas that need using — I'll make something for tomorrow!"
"The children loved that meal — I'm writing that one down!"
"We're celebrating something this week — I have an idea!"
"The kitchen is quiet for five minutes... surely there's something I can organise."
Initiative, creativity and genuine care for the service will be highly valued.
Ideally, You'll Have
- Current Food Safety/Food Handling training
- Allergen awareness training
- Previous cooking, kitchen or food preparation experience
- Knowledge of safe food storage, preparation and temperature control
- Confidence catering for allergies and dietary requirements
- A current Working With Children Check or willingness/eligibility to obtain one
- Experience within an early childhood setting is highly regarded, but the right attitude, experience and willingness to learn are just as important to us
Why Spirals?
At Spirals Early Learning, our kitchen isn't separate from what we do — it's part of the children's experience.
Food provides opportunities for children to explore new tastes, develop healthy relationships with food and connect with one another.
You'll be joining a growing, family-focused early learning service where we value initiative, teamwork, relationships, creativity and people who genuinely care about what they do.
There will be laughs. There will probably be tiny people asking when lunch is ready approximately 400 times. And there will definitely be days where the fruit disappears faster than you thought humanly possible.
If you're looking for a role where you can make the kitchen your own, bring ideas to the table and become an important part of our Spirals community, we'd love to meet you.
