Northern Interests is a national organisation operating multiple remote roadhouses across South Australia and the Northern Territory. With around 130 team members, many living on-site in our staff accommodation, we provide essential services to travellers and locals alike, including fuel, hotel accommodation, camping and caravan facilities, a restaurant, bar, and café.
We are currently seeking suitably qualified and experienced Chefs and Cooks to join our teams at Spuds Roadhouse and Marla Travellers Rest in SA.
Chef
The Chef is responsible for planning, organising, and preparing high quality meals in a high-volume hospitality environment. The role requires a qualified and experienced Chef to manage kitchen operations, ensure food safety compliance, maintain consistent quality standards, and contribute to menu development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning menus, daily specials, and meal offerings in line with business requirements
- Preparing and cooking a range of meals while ensuring consistency, portion control, and presentation standards
- Monitoring food quality, presentation, and service standards
- Supervising and coordinating kitchen staff, including Cooks and kitchen assistants
- Managing stock levels, ordering supplies, and controlling food costs
- Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements
- Overseeing kitchen operations during service and ensuring efficient workflow
To be successful, you will have:
- A relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF Diploma or higher;
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Ability to manage kitchen operations in a high-volume hospitality environment
Cook
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting meals in accordance with established menus, recipes, and quality standards at the roadhouse. The role supports day-to-day kitchen operations in a high-volume hospitality environment and requires a skilled and reliable individual capable of working independently while maintaining food safety, consistency, and efficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing, cooking, and presenting menu items in line with recipes and business standards
- Portioning and plating meals consistently
- Assisting with preparation of daily or nightly specials as directed by the Head Chef or Site Manager
- Monitoring food quality and ensuring compliance with food safety requirements
- Operating kitchen equipment and maintaining cleanliness of work areas
- Assisting with stock control, storage, and minimising food wastage
- Working collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service
To be successful, you will have:
- A relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (preferred)
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment
- Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
