About the Role:
As a Regulatory Officer, you will be responsible for applying early childhood education and care (ECEC) legislation, standards, policies, and guidelines in a fair and consistent manner while performing regulatory functions within the framework of the Regulating for Quality policy. This will include participating in the rotational Assessment and Rating (A&R) model, assessing service quality and supporting continuous improvement.
You will also play a key role in developing and maintaining positive relationships with ECEC providers, educators, and other agencies to achieve regulatory objectives effectively.
The Regulatory Officer reports to the Manager Regulation, Far North Queensland Region, Early Childhood, Regulation and Communication Division.

As a Regulatory Officer, your responsibilities include:
Performing activities associated with assessing applications, quality assessment and compliance in accordance with the legislation and principles of good administrative decision making to support the regulatory authority to undertake its functions, escalating as required.
Assessing incoming regulatory information such as notifications and complaints from ECEC providers and services, other government agencies as well as the general public, in accordance with the ECEC legislation.
Identifying risks and issues, accurately interpreting legislation, exercising powers, gathering evidence and making recommendations to support delegated decision-makers.
Maintaining the integrity, confidentiality and accuracy of official records, information, correspondence and data in accordance with the legislation and departmental protocols.
Capturing accurate and timely data using regulatory systems and identifying issues to improve data quality and process efficiency.
Participating in initiatives for quality improvement in regulatory process and practice to achieve regulatory objectives.
Preparing high quality briefing, reports, correspondence and other documentation.
Providing advice and support to internal and external stakeholders to implement the ECEC legislation.
About You:
It would be highly desirable for the successful applicant to have the following qualities:
A passion for early childhood education, with experience as a regulator or the ability to quickly build knowledge of the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector.
Capacity to conduct assessment and rating visits, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and complete training in assessment and rating processes.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to gather, interpret and present evidence to support sound decision-making.
Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with services, stakeholders, and colleagues.
Ability to manage risk, prioritise workloads, and deliver projects and tasks efficiently within legislative timeframes.
Demonstrated decision-making skills that reflect fairness, consistency, and good administrative practice.
Commitment to working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to achieve quality regulatory outcomes.
