About the Role
We are seeking a skilled First Class Welder to join our workshop team on a full-time basis. The position is primarily responsible for skilled welding of structural steel components and associated preparation, fit-up, inspection and finishing work in accordance with engineering drawings, welding procedures and project specifications.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications and measurements to determine welding requirements.
- Prepare, clean, cut, position, align, clamp and tack structural steel components prior to final welding.
- Perform high-quality MIG/GMAW welding and other welding processes as required for structural steel components.
- Carry out fillet, butt, full-penetration and other specified welds in accordance with approved welding procedures, drawings and project requirements.
- Set up and adjust welding equipment, consumables and welding parameters to achieve required weld quality and penetration.
- Inspect completed welds for penetration, dimensions, finish and defects, and undertake repair or rectification work where required.
- Grind, clean and finish welded joints and components to the required specification.
- Use measuring tools, grinders, cutting equipment and workshop machinery safely and accurately in support of welding work.
- Maintain welding equipment and work areas in a safe, serviceable and orderly condition.
- Comply with workplace health and safety requirements, quality-control procedures, job documentation and supervisor instructions.
Qualifications and Experience
- AQF Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade, or another relevant welding/fabrication trade qualification (or recognised overseas equivalent).
- Minimum 1 year of relevant practical experience performing skilled welding in structural steel, metal fabrication or a closely related environment.
- Demonstrated competency in MIG/GMAW welding and the ability to produce sound, consistent welds to specification.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols and technical specifications.· Experience with structural steel welding, including butt and full-penetration welds, is highly regarded.
- Knowledge of applicable Australian welding/fabrication standards, including AS/NZS 1554.1, is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail, commitment to workplace safety and ability to work effectively as part of a fabrication team.
