Pacific Controls Pty Ltd (PACCON) is a leading pressure management, valve, and actuation supplier servicing Australia’s Oil & Gas, Mineral Processing, Refining, Petrochemical, Water & Wastewater, Chemical, and Power industries.
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Newcastle (NSW) team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Operations Manager NSW, this role is primarily workshop-based but will require flexibility to undertake site work and travel when needed.

About the Role
In this hands-on technical role, you will be responsible for the service, repair, calibration, and testing of a wide range of valve and actuation equipment. Your work will support our strong reputation for quality, safety, and reliable customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, repair, and calibrate valves both in the workshop and on client sites.
- Work from job sheets, manufacturer procedures, and client instructions.
- Identify required parts and conduct diagnostic testing.
- Assemble and calibrate new equipment for the Sales team.
- Perform mechanical testing including hydrostatic and high‑pressure gas testing.
- Safely operate the relief valve test stand and apply NATA guidelines where required.
- Complete accurate testing, documentation, printouts, and written reports.
- Build and test automation brackets and fittings: weld, machine, assemble, and verify fit.
- Support customers during commissioning activities and ensure equipment functions correctly.
- Provide on‑the‑job guidance to apprentices and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Maintain strict compliance with HSEQ requirements and promote safe work practices.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
Essential:
- Instrumentation trade qualification preferred, but Mechanical trade qualification considered.
- Experience with Emerson Fisher Smart Positioners (set up and diagnostics)
- Minimum 2 years’ practical experience with valves.
- Strong mechanical aptitude—comfortable dismantling, repairing, and reassembling equipment.
- Understanding of pneumatics and hydraulic systems.
- Experience with diagnostic procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to travel and work on-site when required.
- C Class Driver’s Licence and High-Risk Forklift Licence.
Preferred Experience:
- Control valves, regulators, actuated isolation valves, and safety relief valves.
- Overhead crane, dogging/rigging, or restricted electrical licence.
- MSIC, TBOSIET, or similar industry certifications.

Physical Requirements
This role includes manual handling up to 15kg and requires completion of a pre‑employment medical.
Salary
If successful, you will be paid a base salary of AUD $90,000.00 per annum plus Super.
Pay: $90,000.00 per year
