Kids Rehab is the largest tertiary paediatric rehabilitation service in NSW, caring for children and young people who as the result of an injury/illness, health condition or surgical/medical intervention would benefit from a multidisciplinary program of goal-directed care. Rehabilitation is medically-led and provided in inpatient, day-admitted, outpatient and community settings.
The primary focus of the Occupational Therapist Level 3 will be in the provision of expert, consultative assessment, treatment and community liaison within the outpatient multidisciplinary clinics, with some involvement in the intensive ambulatory rehabilitation caseload. The desirable candidate will have a keen interest in the utilisation of technology as an adjunct to traditional rehabilitation interventions, and a willingness to translate this into quality and research opportunities for Kids Rehab.
With the majority of outpatient clinic work occurring Monday-Wednesday, it is expected that the successful candidate will consider working days in the first half of the week, however some flexibility may be afforded here based on candidate preference.
What you'll be doing
- : To provide a tertiary level outpatient occupational therapy service to children and young people aged 0-18 years old with complex rehabilitation needs.
- To provide patient services to patients accessing the service, including assessment and provision therapuetic interventions
- This position involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team based at Westmead. The position will involve an outreach component, completing home
- To provide consultative review and occupational therapy assessment of children aged 0-18 who meet the Brain injury service intake criteria. Service provision may at times include therapy appointments, home program development, home, preschool and school
- All occupational therapists are required to ensure an effective learning environment for all staff and students as well as contribute to the planning and development of the Occupational Therapy department and serviced clinical areas.
- This position is based at Kids Rehab, The Children's Hospital, Westmead.
All Occupational Therapists may be required to provide relief to other clinical areas and/ or have their position purpose modified to meet the service demands. This includes working at other sites within the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.

Significant postgraduate occupational therapy experience and knowledge in the assessment and treatment of children with an identified health condition requiring multidisciplinary rehabilitation.

Demonstrated advanced level of clinical skills in upper limb management, equipment prescription, preschool/school based tasks and activities of daily living.

Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, time management skills and proven success in multidisciplinary team settings.

Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and evaluation of service delivery improvement activities.
