About the Division
The Business Services Division leads the provision of quality Academy corporate support services and functions (including procurement, risk management, performance reporting and evaluation, human resources and culture architecture, finance, facilities management, information and audio-visual technology) which enable successful operation of the Academy. In addition, the Business Services Division is responsible for the oversight, delivery and reporting of the compliance and audit obligations required of a statutory authority.
About the Team
The finance team leads the Academy's financial management ensuring the delivery of forecasting, budgeting, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing and financial reporting that enable the Academy to manage its resources effectively. To ensure high-quality support, the finance team leverage the IT systems of the Department of Education's Financial Services Division. The finance team is also responsible for the Academy's statutory compliance and acquitting Portfolio Agency responsibilities as part of the Standing Directions of the Financial Management Act, for instance in developing the Academy's annual Financial Statements and relevant financial audits.
About the Role
The Senior Finance Officer leads the delivery of financial operations while supporting the Chief Financial Officer in providing strategic financial advice and ensuring compliance. This role will manage acquittal of financial compliance including development of the Academy's annual financial statements, transactional exchanges, the provision of insights and provide advice on financial matters to internal and external stakeholders of the Academy.
The responsibilities of the Senior Finance Officer include:
- leading and managing financial operations, including reporting, compliance, financial statements and transactional processes
- providing expert financial advice to internal and external stakeholders
- managing competing priorities and resolving complex financial matters
- building strong partnerships and capability with stakeholders across the Academy
- contributing to standards, processes and continuous improvement in financial systems, processes and capability.
Capabilities
- Strong expertise in financial operations, including reporting, compliance, financial statements and transactional processes
- Experience leading complex and interdependent financial operations including through multiple digital tools and platforms
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Strong project management capability, organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholder views
- Ability to contribute to planning and prioritisation.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification in finance or accounting is essential
- CPA/CA qualification highly desirable
- Experience working in a dynamic, high performing finance function within either a government or corporate environment is highly desirable
- Detailed knowledge, understanding and application of finance policies, procedures, and practices.
