We are seeking to recruit a Head Chef, the position is responsible for managing all aspects of the kitchen operations, ensuring the consistent preparation and presentation of high-quality food, supervising kitchen staff, maintaining food safety standards, controlling kitchen costs, and contributing to the overall success of the business through effective leadership and culinary expertise.
The Role
This is a permanent, full-time position offering an annual salary between $75,000 to $85,000, plus superannuation.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and update authentic Mexican menus, including seasonal specials and new dishes.
- Prepare, cook and present high-quality Mexican meals, ensuring consistency in taste, presentation and portion sizes.
- Supervise and coordinate daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient food preparation and timely service.
- Train, mentor and supervise chefs and kitchen staff in Mexican cooking techniques and food preparation.
- Prepare staff rosters and allocate kitchen duties to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Order, inspect and manage food supplies, ensuring the quality and freshness of authentic Mexican ingredients.
- Monitor stock levels, control food costs and minimise wastage.
- Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Develop and maintain standard recipes to ensure consistency across all menu items.
- Work with management to develop new menu items, promotions and catering menus for special events.
- Monitor food quality and respond to customer feedback to maintain high service standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised and well-equipped kitchen at all times.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
- Certificate IV in Cookery or Kitchen management or substantial relevant industry experience in food preparation
· At least 3 years of experience as a Chef in a professional kitchen specializing in Mexican cuisine
- Strong knowledge of traditional Mexican ingredients, flavors, and preparation techniques
- Proven experience to design, cost, and execute authentic Mexican menus to a high standard
- Demonstrated skills in supervising, training, and mentoring junior kitchen staff effectively
- Capability to maintain high food quality while working in a fast-paced environment
- Thorough understanding of Australian food safety and workplace hygiene standards
- Ability to collaborate with management and service staff to ensure seamless operations
Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
