Alpha Technical Training is a leading Registered Training Organisation delivering nationally recognised qualifications and industry-focused training programs in Electrotechnology, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and related technical trades.
As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our technical infrastructure and developing advanced engineering-based training environments that replicate real-world electrical, industrial automation, HVAC, renewable energy and power distribution systems.
We are seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, testing and continuous improvement of our technical systems and engineering infrastructure.
I. About the Role:
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, development, testing and implementation of electrical systems, control systems and engineering projects supporting Alpha Technical Training’s technical facilities and future engineering initiatives.
The role requires strong technical knowledge of electrical power systems, industrial automation, motor control systems, engineering analysis, commissioning, compliance and project delivery.
II. Key Responsibilities
Electrical System Design & Development
- Design, develop and evaluate electrical systems, power distribution systems and engineering infrastructure used within training and technical environments.
- Prepare engineering drawings, circuit schematics, technical specifications and design documentation.
- Design and develop electrical simulation systems, fault-finding platforms and engineering training infrastructure.
- Develop engineering solutions for residential, commercial and industrial electrical applications.
Engineering Analysis & Technical Evaluation
- Conduct electrical load calculations, equipment sizing, power quality assessments and system performance analysis.
- Analyse electrical system requirements and recommend engineering improvements and optimisation strategies.
- Evaluate the performance, reliability and efficiency of electrical systems and equipment.
- Perform root cause analysis and technical investigations relating to electrical faults and system failures.
Industrial Automation & Control Systems
- Design and evaluate motor control systems, automation systems and industrial electrical applications.
- Support development and implementation of SCADA-based monitoring and control systems.
- Assess industrial automation technologies and their integration into technical projects and training environments.
- Develop technical solutions involving instrumentation, measurement and control systems.
Testing, Commissioning & Compliance
- Develop testing, commissioning and validation procedures for electrical systems and infrastructure.
- Conduct inspections and technical assessments to ensure compliance with engineering standards and operational requirements.
- Ensure electrical systems comply with relevant Australian Standards, engineering principles and workplace safety requirements.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical evaluations and compliance documentation.
Engineering Project Management
- Plan, coordinate and manage engineering projects relating to facility upgrades, workshop development and installation of technical infrastructure.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, consultants and industry stakeholders regarding engineering projects.
- Manage project schedules, technical deliverables and engineering documentation.
- Support procurement and technical assessment of electrical equipment and engineering components.
Research, Innovation & Emerging Technologies
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies in electrical engineering, renewable energy, battery storage systems, EV charging infrastructure, smart grids and industrial automation.
- Develop engineering concepts and technical solutions for future training and industry projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, reliability and technical capability through engineering innovation.
- Contribute to the development of advanced engineering-based training environments reflecting current industry practices.
III. Skills & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor Degree or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power systems, control systems and engineering principles.
- Experience preparing engineering drawings, technical specifications and engineering documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical reporting skills.
- Knowledge of electrical safety requirements and engineering standards.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and technical initiatives.
Desirable
- Experience with SCADA systems, industrial automation and motor control systems.
- Experience with electrical maintenance, commissioning and fault diagnosis.
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems, battery storage and EV charging technologies.
- Experience within industrial, manufacturing, energy or technical environments.
