About the Opportunity
As the Palliative Care Nurse Educator, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic planning of Specialist Palliative Care Services across MLHD, working alongside the managers and senior clinicians to align local practice with the NSW Health End of Life Palliative Care Framework. You will lead the standardisation of education and training for the specialist palliative care workforce, while also building the skills, confidence and capability of the broader, non-specialist clinical workforce who care for palliative clients across the District.
You will work closely with the palliative care specialist team to provide education and mentoring to community nursing teams, helping to establish a strong, standardised and collaborative model of care for palliative clients, their families and carers. You will also contribute to the development of guidelines, policy, procedures and audits and help embed ongoing quality improvement initiatives, including clinical audit and morbidity/mortality/peer review processes — across the District.
As the Palliative Care Nurse Educator, the ideal candidate will:

Develop and evaluate palliative care education and training programmes for both specialist and generalist nursing/midwifery teams

Plan, coordinate and review the District/Network Palliative Care Service Orientation Program

Work proactively with Nursing and Midwifery management teams and Network Managers to build a qualified, competent and responsive palliative care workforce

Establish processes to facilitate mandatory education compliance for nursing and midwifery staff

Coordinate education and training funding initiatives from the Ministry of Health for MLHD

Develop and embed quality improvement structures within the MLHD Palliative Care specialist team

Identify barriers to accessing education and training, and develop solutions to address them

Establish structured education and training activities for specialist palliative care

Explore and build opportunities for collaboration with education providers

Actively promote and participate in patient safety and ongoing quality improvement programs
