We are seeking a Service Manager to lead the maintenance team at our Port Botany bus depot. You will be responsible for managing over 35 staff in the day-to-day workshop operations ensuring that maintenance standards and practices are efficiently and safely adhered to.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced workshop leader to take ownership of a large, multi-trade maintenance operation and play a key role in supporting Transdev John Holland's transition toward electric vehicle technology.

About the role:
As Service Manager, you will lead a team of more than 35 automotive maintenance and workshop staff responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability and compliance of one of Sydney's busiest bus fleets. You will oversee asset management, manage budgets, drive continuous improvement in workplace safety initiatives and partner closely with Operations to deliver contractual performance outcomes.
This is a day shift role to work 6am-2.30pm Monday to Friday.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide effective management and guidance of all the maintenance and repair activities;
- Utilise the most efficient and cost-effective means to ensure contract requirements are met on a daily basis;
- Ensure parts and materials are available and monthly budgets are managed;
- Negotiate with suppliers for provision of service and materials required in maintaining the fleet;
- Work with Operations to provide financial management through modelling, financial application to risk, budget setting, P&L monitoring and analysis per team, cost control and reduction;
- Implement, train and maintain Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) policies and procedures with employees;
- Oversee team performance, including coaching, performance management and development to improve skills;
- Ability to manage monthly budgets
About you:
You are a proven Leader with demonstrated experience in fleet maintenance leadership roles, leading multi trades staff across the maintenance workshops. This includes a clear understanding of Heavy Vehicle regulations and extensive asset management experience at a senior level in a transport operation and highly regulated environment.
Ideally we are looking for the successful candidate to possess the following:
- Current NSW Motor Vehicle Trade Certificate (MVTC) + TAFE Cert III Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (essential qualifications)
- NSW HC License preferred (must be MR or above)
- Knowledge and experience with Electronic Based Maintenance System (HxGN EAM) highly desirable
- Relevant tertiary qualification in transport, business or related discipline – highly desirable
- Heavy Vehicle Inspection Ticket (TAFE Statement in HVAIS Examiner Training) is strongly preferred
