Due to continued business growth and expanding production lines, we are seeking an experienced and dedicated Heavy Vehicle Panel Beater / Sheet Metal Specialist to join our workshop team on a permanent, full-time basis.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for sheet metal forming, precision panel fabrication, bolted chassis/subframe assembly, and structural body realignment for heavy commercial vehicles and trailers.
Key Responsibilities (You will):
- Read and interpret engineering drawings to fabricate and assemble heavy vehicle body components.
- Cut, bend, fold, form, and align high-tensile steel and aluminium sheet metal to exact specifications using press brakes, guillotines, and hand forming tools.
- Fit, align, and assemble subframe and body components using bolted and mechanical fastening systems (including Huck bolts and structural fasteners).
- Assemble and align exterior panels, tipper side walls, tailgates, mudguard side wings, and top coaming sections ensuring uniform gap and flush tolerances.
- Straighten and realign accident-damaged or distorted chassis rails, tipper bodies, and subframes using hydraulic equipment (Porta-Power) and mechanical pulling systems.
- Perform sectioning, floor sheet replacement, and structural panel repairs.
- Execute metal finishing, grinding, DA-sanding, and apply polyurethane seam sealers to joints and seams prior to painting.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area and adhere strictly to workshop WHS standards.
Role Requirements (About You):
- Trade qualified in Automotive Body Repair / Panel Beating (Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology or equivalent industry experience).
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in vehicle body repair, sheet metal forming, or commercial trailer manufacturing preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in sheet metal cutting, press brake bending, and precision panel fit-up.
- Experience with mechanical fastening (Huck bolting / torque-controlled bolting) and MIG welding for tacking/assembly.
- Strong ability to read and work from detailed fabrication blueprints and engineering drawings.
- High attention to detail, pride in quality workmanship, and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
