The ICU term at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) provides an outstanding opportunity for junior doctors to gain experience in the management of critically ill patients within a major tertiary referral and trauma centre.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, trainees are involved in all aspects of critical care, including the assessment, resuscitation, treatment and ongoing management of patients with life-threatening medical, surgical and traumatic conditions. Under the supervision of experienced Intensive Care Consultants and senior trainees, doctors develop skills in clinical decision-making, advanced monitoring, ventilatory support, haemodynamic management and complex patient care.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality intensive care to patients in a complex clinical environment whilst participating in the transitional year of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) training program, with the goal of obtaining fellowship of CICM. The Provisional Fellow rotates through the General, Cardiac-surgical and Neurosurgical ICUs during the course of the year to gain exposure and provide care to a variety of critically ill patients. The Provisional Fellow in ICU & Simulation Education is 0.75 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) clinical work in the Intensive Care Unit and 0.25 FTE teaching and learning in the Kolling Simulation Centre.
Provisional Fellows work under the supervision of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians to manage patients requiring intensive care, those at risk of clinical deterioration requiring intensive care, plus pre- and post-intensive care evaluation. The position has graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy, and development of skills in teaching, research and administration. The position allows trainees to build on the skills and attributes acquired in the early years of training and assist the movement of the trainee into specialist practice.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
